New screen caps showing more new settings. New particles include text characters, "pop-dots", sprites(textured squares), variable-sweep tubes, and simple squares. Now smooth shading the meshes by using surface normals. Also added more detailed camera movements which change their 3d velocity trajectory, and friction, along with the beat (MIDI Note 36). Added heads up display of framerate and current beat. These are displayed geometrically on the screen plane, as a small moving rectangle and dot for easy reference of information camoflauged into the visualisation.

These meta primitives take the concept of a primtive eg a cylinder, but add as many more parameters as nessesary to get a much larger array off possible forms. All parameters are given velocities to play out over the life of the particle. So a metaprimitive particle may grow, twist, or alter any of its parameters as it ages.

Audio input from raw buffer may control object parameters at spawn time, or over the life of the particle. The same goes for FFT spectrum analysis information. The MIDI note input is used as a trigger for changing particle parameters into different modes. The MIDI beat count is used as a track locater, so when notable beats fall (128th beat, 16th measure, etc) the system makes macro changes to the tendencies of the particle generators.

Goals/features:

  • Large space of geometric variety

  • Song following capabilities via MIDI beat count

  • Audio visualisation through geometry

  • Many classes of meta primitive for complex groupings

  • "One time" effects punctuate probabalisticly important measure changes

Program is in dev stage, features are still pouring out. But although many of the feautures are unfinished (no texturemapping, faceted geometry, limited metaparticle pallete), the tight connection to the audio and MIDI signals make it really cool and engaging. Early screenshots:
